The first task assigned to me for this project was to develop a new look and feel for the piece by creating a new matte painting that will be used for the establishing shot. I was given the image that is displayed on the top of following page as a starting point. The art director wanted it to have a “magical” dusk feel to it. After color correcting the piece, altering and adding new shadows, painting lights as well as a new sky, the look for the piece was established and greatly approved by the client. You can see the new matte painting on the following page.
I then added and animated spot lights into the establishing shot and added a camera movie into the image to finish off the scene. For the rest of the project I served as a 3D modeler creating various environmental props (i.e.. cartoon limo, spot lights, clouds, and a red carpet). The 2D cell characters were later added by the compositing department. The version you see on my reel is taken directly from a “PAL” copy and put into an “NTSC” format.
